Description
I want this book to empower you to write feedback that parents will want to read. And you’ll pick up some tidbits on Chinese culture along the way.
After covering the principles I use to write useful feedback, I show you samples of how I word feedback in specific situations. I hope that this info will help you find your own unique voice and leave feedback that is useful, realistic, and inspiring. When you deliver an AMAZING experience both in the classroom and in the feedback box, parents tend to reciprocate with rave reviews.
I also have an Expanded Edition of this book, available here!

Five stars is not enough for this book. It is not only invaluable in providing meaningful feedback to parents, it also gives insight into the Chinese culture which help to understand the children we teach and their families. Since purchasing this book, I have received notes from parents in reviews praising the guidance for their children. I feel like my feedback is now more beneficial for the parents. I keep this book open while I am writing feedback. It is quick and easy to use when looking for specifics, as well as what to say when you feel like you don’t really have anything to say. I am looking forward to the expanded version. This is one of the best purchases I have made!

I bought Ed’s book initially because I felt it was a good way to thank him for the translation assistance he has given me personally as well as the several thousand other members of his Facebook page that is expressly for that purpose. I know Ed only from his book and his FB page but I can tell you that my impression of him is that of a genuinely nice guy who has a huge place in his heart for making the language lessons that these kids receive be as effective as possible. I skimmed the book after buying it. I mean, I really only bought it as a thank you and figured I’d search it and use it as a reference if I was ever in a spot that was something I wasn’t sure how to address. But then I read it. This book Ed has written has helped me in two ways. It has helped me understand the WHY behind some of the problems we all encounter in our classrooms over and over such as the certain sounds that they just don’t really have! It has helped me realize that just like knowing this “why” was enlightening to me, that these parents want the same thing. They don’t want a patronizing “good job” fluff copied prefab feedback. They (at least most of them) want something meaningful to alleviate their concerns over some areas or even fill them with pride over an outstanding accomplishment. I teach differently, hopefully better, because I am going into it with the “why” in mind. I teach more to the individual student instead of just through the slides. I did that to a degree before, but I think it is more effective now. I have only recently made these changes. I can’t say whether or not it has impacted my feedback percentages as it would be too early to tell. I can say that it doesn’t matter if it has because I am more satisfied with the job I have done.

This book has helped me think about my feedback in a totally different way! The phrasing that he uses is so helpful in really articulating why we do certain things during a lesson. Parents appreciate personalized and honest feedback and Ed’s book provides tips and techniques to do just that. I cannot wait for the expanded version!

I can’t recommend this book enough. Not only does it help me teach better and make my feedback better, but I’m more efficient and am completing my feedback faster than ever before. My parent feedback nearly doubled when I started implementing Ed’s advice.

This book gives plenty of examples to help explain “why” to our parents. They know what we do, but they may not understand why. Ed also provides examples of verbiage that translates better, such as “expand” rather than “extend.” This book is inexpensive, a quick read, and an invaluable resource for online ESL teachers.

This book is a game changer. It has not only helped me to leave more useful feedback, it has also made me a better teacher by cluing me in to some areas to focus on in my classes. It’s a quick and easy read, and one of the best purchases I’ve made in a long time. Thank you, Ed!
